Telescope Course - International Astronomy Day

Passionate about the world around you, but don't know where to start? Come spend four hours with our great friends Paul and Rob, as they introduce curious families to general astronomy, and offer useful observing tips, and instructionals on how to set up and use amateur equipment.

Our annual astronomy course is sure to please. While you're at it, take advantage of the 41st International Astronomy Day festivities with Ottawa area astronomers at Focus Scientific, and at the Museum of Science and Technology.

Event date: Saturday May 10th 2014

No registration required.

Events include:

  • Astronomy Course 12pm to 4pm, Museum of Science & Technology auditorium - admission rates apply
  • Free Solar Observing 11am to 1pm, Museum of Science & Technology observatory - View the closest star, our Sun through specialized eye-safe telescopes and filters
  • Free Star Party 8pm to 9:30pm, Museum of Science & Technology - View Jupiter, Saturn, Mars or the Moon through Canada's historic and largest refracting telescope (15 inch), and through other amateur telescopes
  • Q&A with our staff 10am to 5pm - check out exciting equipment at the store, get your questions answered
  • Observatory events are weather permitting, no admission required

Admission rates to main musuem and auditorium:

  • Adults $12.00
  • Students and seniors $10.00
  • Children (3-12) $8.00
  • Children under 3 free
  • Family (2 adults and 3 children) $30.00

We have free parking in the front and rear of the building. Use the driveway to the right to reach the rear parking. There is more parking (overflow) along Loretta, Breezehill and Sherwood. We can help you locate us or find additional parking, call us at 613-723-1350.
